Allyson Tomchin has touched many lives and organizations with her uncanny ability to identify and isolate areas of issue that have complicated growth and success. With her sound technical background, Allyson brings a sense of urgency and clarity through her Solution Focus Approach by systematically dissecting complex matters and addressing solutions, not problems.
Collaborative Family Law is essential and the most ideal working environment for families going through divorce. It gives the family and opportunity to make choices together in a collaborative environment where everyone in that room is helping the family to make the best decision possible. Collaborative Law is also successful in that it involves a multidisciplinary team including a Mental Health Practitioner. From a clinical standpoint this is the ideal way for families to part ways. There is someone on hand at all times who can address the emotional aspects of divorce. Collaborative is not adversarial like most other alternative dispute resolutions including litigating in court.
Children benefit the most from a Collaborative setting. Reduced conflict leads to less mental health issues in children which include but are not limited to anxiety, substance abuse and learning disabilities. Collaborative Family Law is the future as it is a non-adversarial approach to a very difficult time in people’s lives.
Allyson Tomchin received her BSW from the University of South Florida and her Master’s Degree from Barry University.
Dr. Kelly Painter is a Licensed Psychologist specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Painter completed her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University with an internship at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. She has experience and training with high conflict divorce families including providing individual therapy, family therapy, coparenting interventions, and parent training intervention services.
She also has experience in evidence-based treatment of Anxiety Related Disorders, Depression/Mood Disorders, trauma, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, social skills deficits, and school behavioral issues.
Dr. Painter encourages families going through divorce to be collaborative in order for the children to have the best mental health outcomes including stable mood, academic success, and healthy adjustment to the changes occurring in their family system. As the whole family can be significantly negatively impacted by high conflict litigation, collaborative divorce provides families the opportunity to move forward with the transition in the healthiest way. And as society is more and more accepting of the importance of mental health, families can benefit from an approach that incorporates those needs into the divorce process utilizing guidance from a mental health professional.
