MEET karen.

"I have personally witnessed the toll that protracted divorce litigation has on families. My desire is to help my clients achieve their unique goals through a more peaceful and amicable process"

Karen was born and raised in Buffalo, New York.  After high school, Karen attended the University of Michigan and focused her undergraduate studies on individual and organizational psychology.  In order to further this interest and work towards a career in law, Karen attended the University of Florida, and graduated with her Juris Doctorate law degree, in 1993.

From her first legal job in Miami, Karen has always specialized in Marital and Family Law.  In Miami, she was employed by a boutique family law firm for 10 years.   Thereafter, Karen moved to Fort Lauderdale to join forces with her Husband, Robert Sidweber, Esq., who is also an expert in Marital and Family Law.  Karen and Robert have been in private practice together since 2007 and focus their boutique law practice on high net worth divorce cases, as well as complex and high-conflict child custody cases.  Of course, Karen handles all matters dealing with family law, including alimony, child support, property distribution, prenuptial/postnuptial agreements and timesharing/parental responsibility.  Fortunately, most of Karen’s cases settle as a result of her refined negotiating skills and ability to work cooperatively with other lawyers and experts.  However, Karen is always prepared to take her cases to trial, if necessary, and is a passionate and experienced litigator.

"Karen’s background in psychology and her expertise in family law makes her a strong and compassionate advocate for her clients"

In 2012, Karen studied for and passed the Marital and Family Law Board Certification exam and has been a Florida Board Certified Marital and Family Law Specialist ever since.  Once certified, Karen studied for and passed another set of rigorous exams (including Judicial Review and Peer Review) and became a fellow in the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.  Karen has taught Marital and Family Law Advanced Trial Advocacy seminars and is an appointed member of the Florida Marital and Family Law Board Certification Committee, a high honor.  She is a designated “Super Lawyer” and also AV Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

With extensive marital and family law litigation “under her belt” and given Karen’s life-long interest in psychology and family dynamics, Karen now has decided to add Collaborative Law to her “tool box” of skills.  Karen passed the Collaborative Training seminar, took the extensive mediation training seminar, and is a qualified Parent Coordinator.   Karen has personally witnessed the toll that protracted divorce litigation has on families, and desires to help her clients achieve their unique goals through a more peaceful and amicable process, when appropriate.  Karen’s background in psychology and her expertise in family law makes her a strong and compassionate advocate for her clients.

In Karen’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, yoga, cooking, exercise and golf.
